Talent Show (Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley, 2850 Lemon Drive, 527-4437). Tonight at 6:30. This year's edition, with a "Fantasy Land!" theme, will include dancing, singing, cheerleading and other performances. Free with the donation of canned food or a clothing item, benefiting local charities.

The Haunted City (Ventura, 649-9366). Fri., 8 p.m. Local historian Richard Senate leads a walking tour and discusses Ventura's past, including rumored haunted sites. The event is a benefit for Focus on the Masters' Learning to See Youth Outreach program. The tour will begin at Bella Maggiore Inn, 67 S. Chestnut St. Reservations suggested. $8 tickets can be purchased the evening of the event.

International Festival (Mary Star of the Sea Church, 463 W. Pleasant Valley Road, Oxnard, 486-6133). Fri.-Sun. There will be live entertainment representing various cultures, carnival rides, food and more. Hours: Fri., 3-10 p.m.; Sat., noon-10 p.m.; Sun., 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Free admission.

Ojai Family Festival (Libbey Bowl, downtown Ojai, 646-7559 or 640-1610). Sat. A benefit for the Ojai Birth Resource Family Center will offer live music, theater games, storytelling, craft activities and food. Maria Muldaur of "Midnight at the Oasis" fame will perform her award-winning children's music and adult-oriented works. Hours: 2-8 p.m. Gates open at 1 p.m. Advance, $15; at the gate, $17. Children 12 and under enter free with an adult. Discounts for teens and over 64.

Summer Surf Movies (Ventura College Theater, on Loma Vista Road between Ashwood Avenue and Day Road, 667-2222). Sat., 7 and 9:30 p.m. This week's screenings: "Echoes," the George Greenough film accompanied by a Pink Floyd soundtrack; "The Seedling," Thomas Campbell's movie about log riding. Both movies presented at each showing. The series is sponsored by Surfrider Foundation. $8 general, $6 children under 13.

West African Percussion (Local Hero Bookstore, 254 E. Ojai Ave., Ojai, 646-3165). Sat., 7-9 p.m. A performance by A Joyful Noise, an all-female troupe. Audience members are invited to bring their own drums and percussion instruments for an open jam. $4. Internet: http://www.rain.org/~djembek.

Hueneme Beach Festival (Hueneme Beach Park, 550 Park Ave., Port Hueneme, 986-6542). Sat.-Sun. Highlights: live music, children's activities, carnival rides, vendor booths and community displays. Hours: Sat., noon-8 p.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Free admission.

Heritage Square Summer Concert Series (7th and A streets, downtown Oxnard, 483-7960). Fri., 6-8 p.m.: Acadiana (Cajun/zyedeco). Plaza seating, $2; lawn seating, free.

Summer Concerts (Olivas Adobe, 4200 Olivas Park Drive, Ventura, 658-4726). Sat. The seasonal "Music Under the Stars" concert series returns with entertainment each Saturday. This week: New West, a cowboy music trio. Performances begin at 7 p.m. $10; $8 seniors and children. Reserved tables: $5 (seats four).

Ranger Porch Talks (Rancho Sierra Vista / Satwiwa Native American Indian Cultural Center, Newbury Park, 370-2301). Sat., 10 a.m.-2 p.m. National Park Service rangers lead a weekly interactive program offering activities such as rock painting, storytelling and indigenous plant use. Free.

Summer Salsa (Las Caporales Restaurant (307 E. Ojai Ave., Ojai, 646-5452). Sat., 8:30-11 p.m. Salsa lessons and other styles of Latin dance are offered, followed by a dance with a deejay music track. $5.

Amazing Maize Maze (Las Posas Road near Hueneme Road, Camarillo, 495-5678). 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. The second annual cornfield escape game. $10 adults, $7 ages 4-12.

Oak Street Festival (Book Mall of Ventura, 105 Oak St., 641-2665). Sat., 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Weekly children's storytelling, crafts for sale, bargain book tables and music. Free.

O. K. Kids Club (The Oaks mall, 222 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, 495-2031). Children's entertainers perform every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. This week: Mother Goose.
