With the Go-Go's in full gear on the road and planning to make their first album in 16 years, guitarist Jane Wiedlin is releasing "Kissproof World," her first recording since the 1995 album with the band Frosted. Matthew Sweet and Petra Haden each do a guest vocal turn. The album's due Oct. 3 from Painful Discs, a new independent label started by Wiedlin and manager Tim Anctil. . . .

The Murmurs are trying a unique way of introducing a new single via the Internet. Rather than making it available for download or streaming, it will be part of an electronic greeting card available for free at http://www.egreetings.com starting in late September. The song, "Half as Good," features backup vocals by k.d. lang and previews the Murmurs' next album. The duo will also be performing Saturday at Universal City's CityWalk as part of a Rock the Vote event also featuring members of "The West Wing" cast.
