McCain Sees Visitors Day After Surgery

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Arizona Sen. John McCain was walking around the hospital and receiving visitors Sunday, one day after undergoing 5 1/2 hours of surgery to remove two malignant melanomas.

The Republican senator spent an "uneventful night" at the Mayo Clinic Hospital after surgery and was experiencing "surprisingly little discomfort," according to a statement from his office.

A small amount of blood was drained from a spot on his left temple where one melanoma--the most deadly form of skin cancer--was removed, but the wound appeared "excellent," the statement said.

Doctors expect McCain to remain in the hospital for another day or two.
