State Employment Office to Close

August 24, 2000|KAREN ROBINSON-JACOBS

The San Fernando office of the state Employment Development Department will close Friday as the jobs assistance agency prepares to move to several temporary locations throughout the San Fernando Valley.

Construction began several weeks ago on a new and permanent home for the agency at 11623 Glenoaks Blvd., Pacoima. Completion is expected by the end of the year.

In the meantime, beginning Monday, the San Fernando EDD staff will work out of the following job service offices:

Mission College One-Stop Center, 436 N. Maclay St., San Fernando; Canoga Park Job Service, 21010 Vanowen St.; Sun Valley One-Stop Workforce & Industry Center, 9024 Laurel Canyon Blvd.; Chatsworth-Northridge One-Stop Workforce & Industry Center, 20500 Nordhoff St., Chatsworth; and Santa Clarita One-Stop Career Center, 21515 Soledad Canyon Road.

The agency, which offers job placement services for youths, veterans and other job seekers, is vacating offices used since the 1950s because the lease expired, according to Arthur Tellechea, an EDD office manager.

The employment services will be available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
