Newbury Park's schedule, initially a curse with five consecutive road games after a home opener, now looks to be a blessing.

Construction on the football field is not complete, forcing the Panthers to conduct two-a-days at nearby Pepper Tree Park. There are no goal posts and the chalk lines on the field are slightly off.

Coach George Hurley hopes the football field is ready for the Sept. 8 opener against Burroughs. Underground plumbing pipes and electrical systems around the campus are being replaced.

"They keep telling me it'll get done on time," said Hurley, who has not made firm contingency plans.
