Los Angeles City Council President John Ferraro on Friday appointed four San Fernando Valley leaders, including City Councilman Alex Padilla, to serve on a panel that will oversee the creation of a separate bus system for the Valley.

In addition to Padilla, a resident of Pacoima, Ferraro appointed Valley Realtor and city Fire Commissioner Mel Wilson, Woodland Hills attorney and city Transportation Commissioner Roger Stanard and Renee Weitzer, a transportation aide to Ferraro.

The city of Los Angeles gets four of the nine seats on the Valley Transportation Zone Board, which will oversee a pending study to determine whether it is financially feasible for the Valley to take over bus operations from the Metropolitan Transportation Agency.
