A 5-year-old Laguna Niguel boy was improving Friday but remained in critical condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange after suffering skull fractures when a 5-pound cement paving stone crashed through the windshield of the pickup truck in which he was riding early Wednesday.
"He's been able to follow some verbal commands" such as grasping and releasing a finger, said UCI spokeswoman Kim Pine. "They're some positive signs."
