Lies and Legends: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin (Laurel Theatre, 1006 Main St., Ventura, 667-2900). Regular performances begin Sun.: a revue of Chapin songs, directed by George Ball, who starred in the original long-running Los Angeles and Chicago production. Show times: Wed.-Fri., 8 p.m.; Sat., 2 and 8 p.m.; Sun., 2 p.m. Through Aug. 27. Wed.-Thur. and matinees, $27.50; Fri.-Sat., $32.50. Discounts for seniors, students and groups of 12 or more. Note: a gala opening benefit Saturday will begin at 4 p.m. with a block party, barbecue and beer tasting, followed by the show at 7. $100. Proceeds benefit Casa Pacifica Children's Crisis Care Center and Rubicon's Stinky Feet Theater Project for children.

Comedy of Errors (Barranca Vista Park, 7050 E. Ralston St., Ventura, 644-6542). Sun., 7:30 p.m. Classics in the Park will continue its 2000 touring production, adapted for the stage by Michael Jordan. $5.

Grease (Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Scherr Forum, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., 381-2748). A mega-hit musical presented by Young Artists Ensemble. 7:30 p.m. performances: today-Sat. $12-$18.

As You Like It (Moorpark College Performing Arts Center, 7075 Campus Road, 378-1485). A production billed as Shakespeare "with a California beach twist." Show times: today-Sat. and Aug. 3-5, 7:30 p.m.; Sun. and Aug. 6, 2:30 p.m. $6-$10.

George Washington Slept Here (Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 S. 7th St., 525-4645). A Kaufman & Hart comedy, which served as the basis for the television series "Green Acres." Show times: Fri.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 2:30 p.m. Through Aug. 27. $15 general, $12 seniors and students, $8 ages 12 and under.

West Side Story (Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave., 581-9940). A classic American musical presented by ARTS Youth Ensemble. Show times: Fri.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 2 p.m. Through Aug. 12. $15 general, $12 seniors and students, $8 ages 12 and under.

Wild River (The Livery Theatre, 34 N. Palm St., Ventura, 643-5701). An adventure musical by Richard Inman and Sheila Thibodeaux is billed as a road story about exploring self and the bayou. Show times: Fri., 8 p.m.; Sat., 6 p.m. Through Aug. 5. $7.

Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival (Cal Lutheran University, Kingsmen Park, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks, 493-3455). "The Taming of the Shrew" plays Fri.-Sun. and Aug. 4-6. The grounds open at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking and pre-show entertainment, including strolling musicians, dancing, juggling and sword-fight demonstrations. Performances begin at 8 p.m. Festival seating is free; bring chairs or blankets. Limited reserved seating, $10. Alcohol is prohibited.

I Ought to Be in Pictures (Marquie Dinner Theatre, 340 N. Mobil Ave., Camarillo, 484-9909). A Neil Simon comedy about a young New York City woman who journeys to Hollywood to pay a surprise visit to her father. Fri.-Sun. Through Aug. 5.
