Boeing Offering Pay Increase for Current Workers

March 06, 2000|From Bloomberg News

SEATTLE — Boeing Co., in response to an almost monthlong strike by engineers and technical workers, said Sunday it will give the wage increases promised in its last contract offer to any workers on the job.

Boeing today will begin notifying workers of merit increases that they can expect from a planned 8% boost in this year's payroll, the figure in its third offer.

The Seattle-based company laid the groundwork for the move last week by declaring talks at an impasse, allowing it to implement parts of the offer. It hopes the promised wage increases will persuade workers to cross the picket lines.

The union, the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, called the move a "scare tactic" and said it would file a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board.
