Series of Storms Lined Up Off County's Coast

March 08, 2000|KATIE COOPER

A string of winter storms lined up off the coast is expected to bring more showers and thunderstorms to Ventura County through Saturday.

A new front, originating in the northern part of the Pacific Ocean, was expected to arrive late Tuesday and drop close to an inch of rain before departing Thursday.

Forecasters said another front is close on its heels and will likely make landfall late Thursday.

"The first storm system is huge, maybe 600 miles across, and it is generating a lot of energy," said Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service. "And then there is another front right behind it."

The weather pattern will likely bring isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 25 mph, Seto said.

Temperatures will remain cool, with overnight lows in the mid-40s and daytime highs in the upper 50s.

Officials announced a winter storm warning for mountain areas, with forecasts calling for another foot of snow above 5,000 feet.
