Hart Pitchers Keep Agoura at Arms' Length

March 10, 2000|MITCH POLIN

The Hart High softball team might have weaknesses, but pitching isn't among them.

The Indians confirmed that in a nonleague doubleheader Thursday against Agoura at Newhall Park.

Amanda Fortune pitched a one-hitter in Hart's 1-0 victory in the first game. Casey Pickard allowed two hits in the second game, which ended in a scoreless tie when it was stopped because of darkness after four innings.

It wasn't an overpowering performance by Fortune (2-0), who had only two strikeouts. But she didn't allow a hit after Alicia White led off the game with an infield single.

"I thought I threw pretty good and my defense really helped behind me," said Fortune, who has signed with Illinois.

Hart (4-0-1), ranked No. 7 in the region by The Times, scored when Jocelyn Evans' double home Shawna Mann from first base in the fourth.

The Chargers are 2-2-1 under first-year Coach Brandi Brennan.
