The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to defer a proposal to install a red-light camera system at several intersections for six months, so officials can monitor the effectiveness of similar programs in other Orange County cities.

Similar systems, which use the cameras to document motorists who speed through red lights and commit other traffic violations, have recently been installed in Irvine, Garden Grove and San Juan Capistrano.
