Tyler Adamczyk had five hits, including three doubles, and five runs batted in, Cory Taillon had four hits with three RBIs to help Westlake High beat Royal, 13-11, in a Marmonte League baseball game Friday.

Westlake (7-0, 2-0 in league play) defeated the Highlanders at Royal for the first time since 1990.

"There have been so many times that we've gotten big leads on them and they've come back to beat us," Coach Chuck Berrington of Westlake said. "They are the toughest team to beat on their home field."

The Warriors built a 10-4 lead as neither team's starting pitcher made it out of the third inning.

Jesse Kozlowski of Westlake gave up five hits, hit two batters and balked twice on 42 pitches before being relieved by Ryan McCarthy after 1 2/3 innings.

Sophomore left-hander Brian White of Royal allowed 10 runs on eight hits and gave way to freshman James Gomez with two out in the third inning.

Royal loaded the bases in the third inning on two errors and a walk. An infield hit by senior Anthony Gallo scored Eric Ross from third base and pulled Royal to within two runs with one out and the bases loaded.

But senior Joe Guy replaced Tyler Carr and struck out Chris Dusablon and Ryan Keys to preserve the lead.

Brian Lipman had four hits, including two home runs, and six RBIs for Royal (4-3, 0-2). Casey O'Quinn added three hits and two RBIs.

Westlake had 15 hits but left 12 runners on base. Royal had 13 hits, stranded eight runners and committed seven errors.
