Microsoft Corp. said it's investigating whether a preliminary version of a future Windows operating system, code-named Whistler, was leaked out on the Internet. . . . Intel Corp. agreed to buy closely held Basis Communications Corp. for $450 million in cash and assumed options. Fremont, Calif.-based Basis Communications' chips are used in equipment that directs data across Internet and corporate networks.
