Laguna Beach

March 28, 2000|Jennifer Kho, (949) 248-2152

The Laguna Beach Unified school board tonight will continue salary negotiations with teachers union officials in closed session.

Negotiations, which have been going on for months, are at a stalemate over a 1% difference in what the district has offered and what the union wants.

The district has offered a 5% salary increase and has put $100,000 aside in its budget for teachers who attend optional staff development days.

The union has rejected the offer and is asking the trustees to increase salaries by 6% for this school year and compensate teachers 55% of their salary for three staff development days a year.

The union is also proposing to make the staff development days mandatory.

The school board meets at 7 p.m. at the district boardroom, 550 Blumont St.
