A 16-year-old Oxnard High School student is in custody at Ventura County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of causing more than $5,000 in graffiti damage to his school, police said Saturday.

The youth also is the prime suspect in graffiti vandalism at the city's Police Activity's League office and the old site of St. John's Regional Medical Center, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody Friday after police found the graffiti at the high school at 3400 West Gonzales Road.

Oxnard Police Officer Luis McArthur said evidence left at the campus connected the boy to the crime. Authorities believe the vandalism took place between midnight and 3:30 a.m. Friday.

The teen was being held on a felony charge of vandalism and a misdemeanor count of the same crime.
