A Walk in the Park

May 07, 2000

The Houston Astros, finishing up a three-game series at Dodger Stadium this afternoon, are among three National League teams on pace to shatter the league's record for bases on balls drawn in a single season. Through the end of April, the Astros were on an 845-walk pace, followed by the New York Mets (841) and St. Louis Cardinals (797).

The NL single-season record for walks:

732: Brooklyn Dodgers, 1947

729: San Francisco Giants, 1970

728: Houston Astros, 1999

717: New York Mets, 1999

711: Giants, 1969
