* Jack in the Box Inc., the San Diego-based operator and franchiser of the fast-food restaurants of the same name, reported fiscal second-quarter net income of $16.1 million, or 41 cents per share, compared with $13.6 million, or 35 cents, a year ago, excluding an extraordinary item. Revenue rose to $370.5 million from $321.9 million. Same-store sales rose 3% over last year.

* Corona-based Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. reported first-quarter net income of $40 million, or 41 cents per share, the same as for the year-ago quarter. Revenue rose 13% to $179.6 million from $159.2 million. Analysts had expected Watson to earn 42 cents a share.

* Fremont General, a Santa Monica-based lender and insurance company, reported first-quarter net income of $9.5 million, or 14 cents per share, compared with $34.3 million, or 49 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose to $393 million from $299 million.

* Protection One Inc., the Culver City-based home-security company, reported first-quarter net income of $4 million, or 3 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $4.8 million, or 4 cents, a year ago. Revenue fell to $134.7 million from $148.5 million.
