Laguna Woods

Testing is scheduled to begin this week in Aliso Creek to determine how much fecal bacteria is carried through--or originates from--the city.

The Golden Rain Foundation, the governing board of Leisure World, recently set aside about $92,000 to pay for bacteria tests where the creek enters and exits the retirement community and at one point in between.

"We don't really know what's happening in that creek," said City Manager Leslie Keane. "Laguna Woods is a very environmentally concerned community, and we would like to know."

The city has budgeted an additional $7,500 for possible additional testing if the foundation's tests show high levels of bacteria.
