Richards, Burbank Bow Out in Quarterfinals

May 24, 2000|From Staff Reports

Clyde Richards didn't go out with a Southern Section championship, but he didn't go out with a whimper either.

Richards, retiring after 15 seasons as the Burbank High boys' tennis coach, saw the Bulldogs go down biting and scratching Tuesday when they lost to Fullerton Troy on games, 71-64, after splitting 18 sets in a Division II quarterfinal match at Troy.

Tigran Martirosyan, playing at No. 1 singles for Burbank (19-3), won his three sets, as did the Bulldogs' No. 1 doubles unit of Eugene Shin and Min Kang.

Cody Long and Michael Wang won two of three sets at No. 3 doubles, and Jeff Das won two of three sets at No. 1 singles for Troy (25-0).
