Moo-ving Art and More in New York

May 28, 2000

About 500 life-size cow figures variously decorated by artists will graze throughout all five boroughs of New York City starting in June.

Called "CowParade New York 2000," the exhibit, June 15 to Labor Day, follows on the heels--or hoofs--of a smaller exhibit of about 300 cows that irritated critics (is it art?) and amused many visitors last year in Chicago. The fiberglass figures, many sponsored by local businesses, will be auctioned to benefit charities after the show. Riding herd over it all is an outfit called CowParade Holdings in Greenwich, Conn. Information: tel. (203) 291-4510, Internet http://www.cowparade.com.

Also, from 6 to 9 p.m. June 13, nine museums, including the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will waive their entrance fees. Fifth Avenue from 82nd Street to 104th Street will be closed for the annual Museum Mile Festival event, which includes entertainment. Tel. (212) 606-2296.
