Reward Offered in Beating Death

November 01, 2000|RICHARD FAUSSET

The Los Angeles City Council is offering a $25,000 reward for information on the July beating death of a homeless man in Sun Valley.

The reward is for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the man's death.

The body of Ruben Mejia, 41, was found July 29 in the 8400 block of San Fernando Road. Mejia, who had been left mentally incapacitated by an earlier auto accident, was known to live in the industrial area where his body was found, said Det. Mike Coffey of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division.

"We have absolutely no idea what happened," Coffey said. "No clues, no witnesses, nothing."

The council unanimously voted Tuesday to offer the reward.

Anyone with information should call the LAPD North Hollywood Division at (818) 623-4016.
