Tyler Ebell rushed for 365 yards and four touchdowns to become only the eighth player in state history to top the 3,000-yard plateau in a season, and Ventura High routed Santa Barbara, 42-8, in a Channel League game Friday night at Santa Barbara.
Ebell, a senior who made a commitment to UCLA this week, had scoring runs of 58, five, 31 and 34 yards--his final scoring run putting him over 3,000.
Ebell's season total stands at 3,102 yards. Jermaine Marshall, who rushed for 3,586 yards for Kilpatrick last season, holds the state single-season record.
Ebell also climbed to fifth among the region's career rushing leaders with 5,992 yards.
Ebell summed up his accolades succinctly.
"Cool!" he said.
Ventura (8-1, 3-1 in league play) built a 28-0 halftime lead. Ebell also had a 62-yard touchdown run nullified by a clipping penalty.
