Conejo Valley Days Theme Is Selected

November 10, 2000|JOSH KARP

Having a good rhyme seems to be the best way to create a winning theme for Conejo Valley Days.

"Conejo Fun in 2001" was chosen this week as the theme for next year's celebration by the event's four-member executive committee. The slogan was submitted by Thousand Oaks resident Brenda Born, and will be imprinted on badges, belt buckles and other promotional materials.

Born's theme was selected from 170 entries, said Mary Elva Lussier, a spokeswoman for the event.

Slogans that rhyme have been chosen for Conejo Valley Days about 80% of the time, Lussier said. Conejo Valley Days, which celebrates the history of the Conejo Valley with a variety of cultural and family-oriented events, kicks off its 43th year on March 17.

Born, an 11-year resident who owns a consulting and bookkeeping service, will get to ride in the Conejo Valley Days parade.

She will also receive a badge and buckle with her slogan, and a $100 check in her name will be sent to the charity of her choice, Lussier said.

Conejo Valley Days officials will soon select a graphic artist to design the badge and other materials.

"I did it for the fun of it and wasn't really expecting to win," said Born, who served as the event's treasurer last year. "I'm glad I did."

Lussier said there were many strong entries, but Born's stood out.

"It would make a good badge," she said. "And the image it would project would work well for the festival in that it's a family fun event."
