On Way to Visit Wife, Man, 81, Is Killed by Hit-Run Driver

November 11, 2000

BURBANK — An 81-year-old man who was crossing the street to visit his wife in a convalescent home was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Friday, Burbank police said.

The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was struck in the 1000 block of South Main Street about 5 p.m., said Lt. Wade Taylor of the Burbank Police Department. He died before paramedics could get him to a hospital, Taylor said.

Taylor said the car that hit him was described as maroon with gray or silver trim and tinted windows.

"The driver was accelerating and we suspect they knew they had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian," Taylor said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Burbank police at (818) 238-3130.
