Big Second Quarter Lifts First Lutheran

Jimmy Elliott completed 15 of 26 passes for 174 yards and four touchdowns and also caught a touchdown pass for First Lutheran in a 62-20 victory over Big Pine in the first round of the Southern Section Eight-man Small-School Division playoffs at First Lutheran High.

The Falcons, who scored 22 points in the second quarter for a 30-6 halftime lead, had Randy Kirchmann rush for 146 yards and score on runs of 18, 58, 25 and 32 yards in 10 carries for the Falcons (8-2).

Kirchmann ran for a 58-yard score and John Stark caught touchdown passes of 22 and 24 yards from Elliott in the second period. Stark finished with five receptions for 120 yards and three touchdowns.

Andre Malibosky intercepted a pass and returned it 14 yards to set up a 38-yard touchdown pass from John Gordon to Elliott for First Lutheran's final score in the fourth quarter.

Jon Fansier scored on runs of 54 and 45 yards for Big Pine (6-4).


Viewpoint 57, Bermuda Dunes Christian 34--Andrew Chizever threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more, leading the Patriots (6-4) to a first-round victory at Bermuda Dunes Christian (7-3).

Viewpoint, which led 50-14 at halftime, had four touchdowns called back because of penalties.
