November 11, 2000|DALE RUHE

Brethren Christian, behind the five-touchdown performance of Leon Green, earned a Southern Section Division XI playoff berth with a 41-28 Olympic League victory over host Ontario Christian Friday.

The Warriors (3-6-1, 2-3 in league) trailed Ontario Christian, 28-14, with just under eight minutes remaining. But Green would score four touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the next seven minutes.

Green accounted for 288 yards on runs, receptions and kick returns. Quarterback Kyle Painter completed 17 of 32 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns.

After Greg Talen put Ontario Christian (2-8, 0-5) in front, 28-14, with a six-yard scoring run, it took less than 20 seconds for the Warriors to respond as Painter passed to Green for 80 yards and a touchdown.

After a fumble recovery by Paul Aitchison on the Ontario Christian seven-yard line, two plays later, Green scored on a five-yard run but the Warriors trailed as the extra point kick was missed.

The Warriors took the lead for good on a four-play, 65-yard drive that took one minute. Green ran 23 yards for the touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion run.

The Knights failed to convert on fourth down on the next series, which led to Green's final touchdown, a two-yard run with 46 seconds remaining.
