Rifocs Merges Operations With Datacom-Textron

November 14, 2000|BARBARA MURPHY

Rifocs Corp. in Camarillo, which manufactures fiber-optic test instruments and cable assemblies, has merged its operations with Datacom-Textron in Everett, Wash.

Datacom is a manufacturer of test equipment for copper-based local area networks. Both Rifocs and Datacom are subsidiaries of Textron Inc.

The merger, expected to be completed by next month, will involve the transfer of Datacom-Textron's operations to Rifocs' facility in Camarillo.

"Rifocs and Datacom are very similar in terms of their market focus and operations," said Chuck Clark, vice president and general manager of Rifocs and Datcom. "The Rifocs and Datacom product lines complement one another, so this move better positions us to serve our cable installing customers, whether optical fiber or copper, with innovative new products."

Dennis Horwitz, vice president of marketing and business development for Rifocs, said the merger is driven by the convergence occurring within the communications marketplace.
