Fullerton

Cal State Fullerton has scrapped plans to build a temporary parking lot on three acres of the Fullerton Arboretum. University officials had approached arboretum members in September, asking for permission to pave a southeastern portion of the arboretum designated for a future Mediterranean garden. The temporary lot was to have been used for three years, then returned to its natural state.

Opposition by arboretum members and others from the community led the Arboretum Commission--made up of Fullerton residents, arboretum members and university representatives--to postpone its decision. The university has since withdrawn its request, Jay Bond, associate vice president of facilities management for the campus, said Tuesday.

The Arboretum Commission was scheduled to vote on the proposal today.
