BEST BETS Thursday 11/16

November 16, 2000

Want to forget your name? Regress to age 5? Pledge undying love to a complete stranger? Then volunteer to join comic hypnotist Flip Orley on stage. But don't worry about embarrassing yourself--at least not too much. Orley says each of his subjects is treated with respect and gentility: "I want the audience to laugh with them, not at them."

* Flip Orley, Brea Improv, 945 E. Birch St. 8:30 p.m. Also Friday, 8:30 and 10:30 p.m.; Saturday, 8 and 10:30 p.m.; Sunday, 8 p.m. $12 to $15. (714) 529-7878.

Focusing on the film scores of Aaron Copland as part of its Copland Centenary Festival, Pacific Symphony will accompany a screening of the 1939 documentary "The City." The Copland program, led by Carl St.Clair, also will include "Fanfare for the Common Man," "An Outdoor Overture," "Quiet City," the Suite from "The Heiress" and "A Lincoln Portrait," with narration by baritone William Warfield.

* Pacific Symphony, Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. 8 p.m. $19 to $52. (714) 556-2787.
