Carroll Signs Letter With Arizona State

Porchea Carroll of Rio Mesa High, runner-up in the girls' 100 meters in the state track and field championships in June, signed a letter of intent with Arizona State.

Carroll, who ranks third on the all-time region list in the 100 with a best of 11.60, took an unofficial recruiting trip to UCLA and official trips to USC, Louisiana State and Arizona State.

MISCELLANY

* Eddie Robinson, a three-sport athlete at Reseda High, has been selected one of three state-wide recipients of the fall CIF Spirit of Sport award winners.

Robinson, one of the top running backs in the City Section, was recognized for his accomplishments on and off the field.

Among the finalists was football player Ryan Creadick of Camarillo.

SOFTBALL

* Catcher Ashlie D'Errico of Highland High signed with Pacific.

D'Errico, The Times' Valley player of the year last season, batted .387 with 14 runs batted in to lead the Bulldogs to the Golden League championship.

* Catcher Jenni Perez of Thousand Oaks signed with UC Santa Barbara and second baseman Michelle Spencer of Thousand Oaks signed with Texas-Arlington.

FOOTBALL

* The Valley Youth Conference will hold its age-group championships Sunday at Monroe High.

The schedule: Gremlins, Chatsworth Chiefs vs. Crenshaw Cougars, 10 a.m.; Tiny Mite, Crenshaw vs. Northridge Knights, noon; Mighty Mite, Northwest Pasadena Ponies vs. Northridge, 2 p.m.; Pee-Wee, San Fernando Braves vs. North Valley Bears, 4 p.m.; Midget, San Fernando vs. East Valley Trojans, 6 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

* Tryouts for the Pacific Volleyball Club are scheduled this weekend at Moorpark College.

Players 12 and under will try out from 8-9 a.m. Saturday, followed by 14-and-under players from 9-10:30 am., and 16-and-under players from 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday.

Players in the 18-and-under division will work out at 9 a.m. Sunday.
