Artesia Man Arrested in Series of Sexual Assaults

November 18, 2000

CERRITOS — A 25-year-old man was arrested on Thursday night in connection with a series of sexual assaults in Cerritos, Cypress, Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs over the last several months, sheriff's officials said on Friday.

Bismark Ceja, an Artesia resident, was booked on kidnapping and sexual assault charges and taken to the Twin Towers jail, where he is being held on $1.5-million bail, officials said.

A task force of officers from several law enforcement agencies staked out an area along Imperial Highway in Norwalk Thursday night. Around 8 p.m., using a composite sketch provided by some of the attacker's four victims, the officers spotted someone who matched the description driving a similar car, said Lt. David Halm.

"They didn't know who this guy was," Halm said. "They were looking for a needle in a haystack."

Evidence of the assaults was discovered in Ceja's car, deputies said. A search warrant was subsequently served on his residence and more evidence was found, they said.

"We can't say what the evidence was at this point,' Halm said.
