OXNARD — Police arrested an Oxnard man on suspicion of rape after a woman told them that she had been assaulted in the back seat of a car.

Lawrence Beasley, 27, was taken into custody about 10 p.m. Thursday after officers stopped him near West Juniper and M streets on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.

Beasley was bleeding from a head wound and partly clothed when he got out of the car. The woman, an Oxnard resident and acquaintance of the suspect, was in the back seat.

The woman told the officers that she had been raped. She also said that Beasley had threatened her life if she cooperated with authorities.

Beasley was arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail on charges including rape, attempted sodomy, false imprisonment and car theft.

Authorities at the jail said Beasley is a convicted felon and was being held late Friday on suspected parole violations.

The woman was treated at Ventura County Medical Center and released.
