Ojai Valley Sermon Series

November 18, 2000

* Pastor David Smith at Ojai Valley Adventist Church today will deliver a sermon on "The Final Court of Appeal." The service will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Ojai Valley Adventist offers a service that blends contemporary Christian music with traditional songs of faith. Bible study hour begins at 9:30 a.m.

St. Matthew's Christmas Market

* St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Newbury Park holds worship services at 8:30 and 10 a.m. Sunday.

Also Sunday, the church will hold its annual Alternative Christmas Market following both services. The charitable event will include Heifer Project International, Habitat for Humanity and Third World Gifts.

Worship at St. Matthew's is relaxed and interactive, with child care and children's classes available during the second service. The church is at 1360 S. Wendy Drive. For more information, call 498-6910.

B'nai Emet Hanukkah Boutique

* Congregation B'nai Emet in Simi Valley will hold its annual Hanukkah Boutique and Jewish Book Fair from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Children's Musical at Camarillo

* Camarillo Community Church holds Sunday worship services at 8, 9, 10:10 and 11:20 a.m. This week, the children's musical "Thanks Is Something You Give" will be performed at each service except for the 8 a.m. gathering.

Medicine Man at Bahai' Faith

* Bahai' Faith will host a worship service Sunday in Oxnard that will feature a cultural performance by Peter Catches, an Oglala Lakota medicine man. Catches and his wife, Cindy, are visiting from Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. He will sing ancient sacred songs of the Lakota people. Cindy Catches will also present prayers and teachings from various religious traditions. The service will be held at Roger Jones Community Center, 2864 Jourdan St. For more information, call 644-6809.

St. Paschal Thanksgiving Mass

* St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church in Thousand Oaks will hold a special Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The service will be bilingual and there will be a blessing of food. All those interested may bring their canned goods to be blessed.

Westminster Presbyterian Service

* Pastor Tim Fearer on Sunday will continue his Romans series with "Hitting Bottom and Then the Light" at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Hueneme. A contemporary service will be held at 9 a.m., with a traditional service at 10:45 a.m.

Nursery care is provided. Children from preschool age through fifth grade are dismissed to Kid's Church.

Psychologist to Offer Parents Help

* Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Ventura will present the parent seminar "Holding On While You Let Go" Sunday. The seminar, from 7 to 8:45 p.m., will focus on how to help teenagers deal with stress and anger, how to teach teens to complete chores without yelling and nagging, plus other information. The seminar will be led by psychologist Tom Prinz. A $5 donation is requested. The church is at 8180 Telephone Road. For more information, call 644-5490.

Sermons to Focus on Renewal

* The Rev. Kent Meads and the Rev. Scott Parker on Sunday will continue a November sermon series about renewal at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Camarillo. The topic of the second installment will be "Renewing Our Commitment to Missions." Services are at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Sunday Service at Our Saviour's

* The Rev. Mary Ann Fiene preaches during the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oxnard. This week's service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school is held at 11 a.m. Child care is provided.

First Presbyterian Sunday Service

* Pastor James K. Bain Jr. will deliver the holiday sermon "Thanksgiving With Bells" at 10 a.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard. The message will be based on the scripture Psalms 100 and Philipians 4:4-7.

Also on Sunday, the adult seminar "Popular Religious Leaders" will be led by Charles Griffin at 11:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. The series will continue Nov. 26 and Dec. 3.

Unity Center Church Service

* The Rev. Irma Oestmann will deliver the message "How to be Healed" Sunday at Unity Center Church in Thousand Oaks. The 10 a.m. service will include music by pianist Dolores Bell.
