Man Convicted of Sexually Abusing Girl for 10 Years

November 23, 2000

POMONA — A man was convicted Wednesday of sexually molesting a girl for 10 years and operating ethamphetamine lab in his home.

It took a Pomona Superior Court jury about four hours of deliberations to convict 41-year-old Gregory Willis Hayes of 24 felony counts and one misdemeanor count, said John Allen Ramseyer, deputy district attorney.

Aside from the 18 counts of sexual assault involving the minor, Hayes was also convicted for manufacturing methamphetamine, possessing material to manufacture methamphetamine, child abuse and possession of child pornography.

He was arrested by Glendora police on Sept. 3, 1999, after a 15-year-old girl came forward and said she had been molested for the past 10 years by Hayes, Ramseyer said. It was during execution of a search warrant that police found the methamphetamine lab in Hayes' home, he added.

Hayes remains in custody in lieu of $2-million bail since his arrest.
