What's Not

November 23, 2000

Sony PlayStation 2. Oh, sure, having PlayStation 2 is still pretty cool--if for no other reason than no one else has it. But Sony shot itself in the foot this fall by revealing it wouldn't even come close to meeting holiday demand for the 128-bit successor to its powerhouse PlayStation. Of course, the system couldn't live up to the media hype or the expectations of fans who watched Sony build PlayStation from nothing into the game industry's top dog. But the games in Sony's massive launch lineup were mostly lackluster. And then there is the little problem of not being able to get one. This chaps a lot of people--including us. The game was Sony's to lose, and it appears that the company may have a harder fight ahead than anyone thought.
