Attendance rates at Los Coyotes and Miller elementary schools beat rates at other campuses in the Centralia School District last school year, according to figures provided to the school board last week. Attendance rates serve as a basis for state funding.

"So if a student is not in school, we lose money for that day," Centralia spokeswoman Colleen Bragalone said.

Los Coyotes reported an absentee rate of 2.59%, with 83,395 possible attendance days (the number of school days multiplied by the number of students enrolled at the campus) and 2,160 absences. Miller school reported an absentee rate of 2.97%, with 101,832 possible attendance days and 3,028 absences.
