A shift from standard windows to a narrow vertical clerestory design led to the Planning Commission's approval last week of a plan to build a 1,400-square-foot second-floor addition to a home on Cedar Avenue. Planning commissioners delayed a vote on the project in August to give the homeowner time to modify plans so the addition wouldn't provide a clear view into the homes of next-door neighbors.

Commissioners voted 4 to 1 last week, with Kirk Nakamura opposed, to approve the modified project. That vote corresponded with another 4-0 vote to approve a second-floor addition to a historic home on Park Place. Commissioner Ron DiLuigi abstained from that vote.
