If all goes well, Valencia may soon have its replacement for Manuel White at tailback.

Charles Burnley, a top running back for Crespi's 10-0 freshman team last season, transferred to Valencia before the start of school. If he passes his classes, he should be eligible by the ninth game.

"What a wonderful athlete," Coach Brian Stiman said.

Two changes in St. Francis' offensive line have improved protection for quarterback John Sciarra.

Center Jason Peters and guard Demetre Kokorus were moved into the lineup after the Golden Knights' loss to Crescenta Valley.

*

Linebacker Tim Zapanta of St. Francis underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair torn knee cartilage and should return for the start of Mission League play in three weeks.

He was injured during practice prior to the Crescenta Valley game, weakening the Golden Knights' defense.

Erick Viramontes of Notre Dame has become a special teams force. He has blocked two punts and one conversion kick in five games.
