SATURDAY AND OCT. 15 Eco-Friendly Homes The Eco-Home Network, Global Possibilities and the American Solar Energy Society will offer tours of eight Los Angeles-area homes--four houses each day--that feature solar power, energy- and water-efficient appliances, organic food gardening, recycling and more.

Location: On Saturday, the tour includes four houses in the Westside of Los Angeles, and on Sunday, participants will visit homes in Los Feliz, the San Fernando Valley and La Crescenta. Tour addresses will be handed out at registration.

Time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day

Cost: $10 for a one-day tour, $15 for both days. Tickets must be purchased in advance at Real Goods, 11670 National Blvd., West Los Angeles, or at (310) 445-4645.

OCT. 15 Sierra Madre Homes Tour The Sierra Madre Historical Society will showcase three Craftsman-style houses, a museum and a local elementary school at their annual homes tour. Among those on display are the 1898 Caley House, the 1906 Perry House and Sierra Madre Elementary School, built in 1930 and home to a Japanese garden, where music and refreshments will be offered.

Location: Caley House, 233 Ramona Ave.; Perry House, 201 N. Adams St.; Craftsman bungalow, 258 E. Alegria Ave.; Sierra Madre Elementary School and Japanese Garden, 141 W. Highland Ave.; and Richardson House Museum and Lizzie's Trail Inn, 167 E. Mira Monte Ave.

Time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $12 for advance tickets, $15 the day of the tour, or $5 to visit only one location. Tickets may be purchased at Best Buy Drugs, 29 N. Baldwin Ave., at Arnold's Hardware, 297 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., at any of the homes on the day of the tour, or by calling (626) 355-8129.

OCT. 15 Long Beach Homes Tour Nine Long Beach homes and gardens will be featured on a tour presented by the California Heights Neighborhood Assn. and Long Beach Heritage. The tour will showcase California bungalow, English Tudor and Spanish Colonial Revival homes built in the 1920s to 1930s.

Location: The California Heights Historical district of Long Beach

Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: $13 in advance at Julie's Antiques and Collectibles, 1133 E. Wardlow Road, Long Beach, and $15 the day of the tour.

OCT. 22 College Presidents' Homes The Claremont Heritage will hold its annual homes tour at the Claremont Colleges this year, and features the college presidents' residences. Among the homes on display are a 1904 Craftsman-style, designed by Arthur Benton; an Alan Taylor-designed 1939 Spanish Colonial Revival; and a 1919 Dutch Colonial, home to the Pitzer College president.

Location: The tour begins at 739 North College Ave., Claremont

Time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $15 for members and advance reservations and $20 the day of the tour
