When the word "outlet" appears, any good bargain hunter usually stops to investigate. Such was the case when I was in Eagle Rock recently and spotted Catfish Bite Outlet.
This small and tidy shop is filled with comforters, pillows and pillow shams, dust ruffles, tuffets and duvets that are sold in high-end catalogs and specialty stores.
Bedding ensembles range from twin to Eastern king and are sold individually, not as sets.
The inventory at this outlet, open only five months, is made up of overruns, samples, irregulars and RAs (return authorizations) and sell here for anywhere from 30% to 50% off retail.
The patterns and styles vary from sophisticated and tailored to cottage florals.
One unusual pattern, "I Want to Go to Bali," is a muted print in shades of khaki and plum and tailored in design. A twin comforter that retails for $99 is marked $69.50.
If you prefer the cottage look, there's Chantilly Cream, a rose-pink floral on a yellow background reversing to a coordinating plaid. It sells for $79 retail but is marked $55.50 at the outlet.
The romantic "Collard Greens" diamond pattern with persimmon, purple and moss-colored flowers is on a maize pinstripe; the twin comforter is $129 in catalogs and specialty stores but here it sells for $90.50. A pillow decorated with beads costs $49.50 here instead of $69.
For the home decorator, fabrics may be purchased by the yard. You can order from swatches at the same 30%-50% off retail.
Catfish Bite Outlet, 1565 Colorado Blvd., Eagle Rock. Hours: Thursday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (323) 255-5548.
Weekend Supersale: Pet lovers will appreciate the deals at Red Barn this weekend. A 50-pound bag of Pedigree Mealtime kibble for dogs is $14.95 (a smaller bag is usually $16.95) and a case of 24 cans of Special Kitty cat food is only $4.50. But the biggest weekend special is a 6.6-pound bag of Natural Balance cat kibble for FREE.
