Ruben Torres rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns in 21 carries to lead Katella past visiting Century, 42-34, Friday at Western High in an Empire League game.

It was the second consecutive victory for Katella (2-4, 1-0 in league). The Knights took a 28-7 lead in the second quarter, but Century cut the lead to 28-20 with 9 minutes 44 seconds left in the third quarter on a 55-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Fred Medina.

But Century could get no closer.

"We knew that Century could score, but when Ruben gets the ball 20-25 times a game, we can keep up with any team," Katella Coach Dominik Unger said.

But on the ensuing drive, Torres carried seven times for 61 yards and tied the score, 7-7, on a 21-yard touchdown run.

Torres, a 5-foot-8, 180-pound senior who had 116 yards by halftime, scored again on a 10-yard run with 6:53 left in the second quarter.

Katella quarterback Chris Haller passed for 114 yards and two touchdowns, but completed only five of 14 and had two passes intercepted.
