Classes Planned to Help Parents, Teens

October 18, 2000|JOSH GOLDSTEIN

The Ventura Unified School District will host a five-week course for parents and teens starting Thursday that will focus on how to strengthen relationships and build academic success.

The free classes will meet at 6:45 p.m. and continue weekly through Nov. 16 at the Ventura Adult and Continuing Education building.

"A Time for Parents" is designed to improve family communication, build self-esteem and develop effective study habits. The classes will also help parents identify alcohol and social problems among teens.

The classes will be led by psychologist Margaret Barker, who has taught similar classes sponsored by the school district for more than 15 years.

The classes are open to Ventura-area parents and their teenage children.

The workshop series is sponsored by the adult education division of the school district, along with area middle and high schools.

Those interested can either preregister by phone or enroll during the first class.

The class will meet at 5200 Valentine Road, Ventura. For more information, call 641-5200.
