Fueled by winds, a brush fire that broke out Sunday afternoon in Lake View Terrace threatened nearby homes before it was extinguished by more than 125 firefighters.

The fire burned 45 acres near the 11500 block of Jeff Avenue, an area of rolling hills and grasslands, said Jim Wells, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. Winds of 25 to 35 mph fanned the fire, which was reported at about 2:15 p.m.

The blaze was put out at 3:45 p.m. by the Los Angeles city and county fire departments. It caused no injuries or structural damage, Wells said.

While the fire raged, two Super Scoopers, three sky cranes and at least seven helicopters dropped water on the flames. Ground crews attacked the fire with hoses and more firefighters were stationed near homes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
