October 28, 2000|MARGARET TALEV

Children and teens who love reading are invited to compete for the chance to write and record a 30-second radio spot promoting the public library system.

Entry forms and rules can be picked up at the reference desk at the Simi Valley Library, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road. The theme of the contest is "The Library: What's in it for Me?" Entries are due Nov. 10.

The winning script will be announced Nov. 19, the second day of the library's two-day Children's Book Festival. Entries will be judged by area radio announcers, and winners will have the option of recording their scripts for public service announcements to air next year.

Winners also will receive a $25 gift certificate from Target and recording supplies, contest organizers said.

The book festival opens Nov. 18 and runs 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. An annual postcard design contest also will be featured. In addition, children's authors, illustrators, storytellers and crafts designers will be on hand.
