Man Arrested in Alleged 'Love Triangle' Slaying

October 28, 2000

PACOIMA — A young man found dead on a Pacoima sidewalk Thursday morning apparently was the victim of a jealous husband, Los Angeles police said Friday.

Police have arrested San Fernando resident Alejandro Valverde on suspicion of murder in the beating of the 22-year-old Arleta man, whose name has not been released.

LAPD Lt. Steven Allen said the victim, who had once dated Valverde's wife, had been trying to contact her again.

"It does appear to be a love triangle type of deal," Allen said.

Valverde is being held in Van Nuys jail without bail. He is expected to be arraigned Monday or Tuesday.

Police said they believe another person also was involved in the death, which appears to have been caused by blows to the head.

Allen said both Valverde and the victim were gang members, although the crime apparently was not related to that.
