Time Stands Still, Birmingham Keeps Rolling Over Cleveland

October 28, 2000|STEVE HENSON

The scoreboard clock at Cleveland was not operating Friday night in the Cavaliers' game against unbeaten Birmingham.

It was just as well.

Birmingham dominated every phase of the game, winning, 42-0, and officials keeping the time on the field made sure the second half went by rather swiftly.

The Patriots ran only three offensive plays in the third quarter and the teams combined for just 18 plays in the fourth quarter.

The game ended before 9 p.m., but Birmingham managed to extend double its 21-0 lead in the abbreviated second half.

"Our second-team offense had a chance to drive down the field and score in the fourth quarter," Birmingham Coach Ed Croson said. "That was important for kids who work hard in practice."
