POP MUSIC

In Brief

*** Poe "Haunted," Atlantic.

October 29, 2000|STEVE APPLEFORD

Five years is a long time between records. But for Poe, the long wait for the follow-up to her debut album and the hit single "Angry Johnny" has paid off, with rich, sophisticated songs of depth and emotional intensity sometimes reminiscent of Aimee Mann. "Haunted" (in stores Tuesday) features modern pop built on a mix of electronic beats, electric guitars, acoustic warmth, and lyrics that explore the complexities of life and loss.
