LODI--The Sandhill Crane Festival will take place Nov. 3-5 in honor of the wintering birds. There will be field tours all three days. An art show, children's activities, workshops and educational talks are scheduled Nov. 4-5 in Hutchins Street Square, downtown. Tours: 3 p.m.-dusk Nov. 3, dawn to dusk Nov. 4-5; $10. ENCINITAS--Children's rides and more than 300 craft vendors will fill downtown streets during the Poinsettia Festival, Nov. 19. There will also be a beer garden. U.S. 101, from D to J streets. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free. (760) 943-1950.

CARLSBAD--The streets of downtown will be bustling with the Fall Carlsbad Village Street Faire on Nov. 5. Festivities will include live entertainment; hundreds of vendors offering food, antiques, art and crafts; and a car display. Grand Avenue. 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Free. (760) 931-8400.

PETALUMA--It's not beginning to look a lot like Christmas yet--so the Nov. 10-12 Holiday Craft Faire will put you ahead of the rush. It will include handcrafted gift items, art exhibits and a visit from Santa Claus. Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd. Noon-7 p.m. Nov. 10; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 11; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 12. Free. PALM SPRINGS--The Stars and Stripes will march down Palm Canyon Drive at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 11 during the Veterans Day Celebration. A concert by the Marine Corps Band will follow, featuring Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" (complete with cannon). Vehicle and military hardware displays will be set up at Amado Road and Palm Canyon Drive. Fireworks will begin about 5 p.m. Downtown, Palm Canyon Drive. 3:30-5 p.m. Free. (760) 323-8272.
