Oliver Wins Golf Title

Jamie Oliver of Los Alamitos shot nine-over-par 117 for 27 holes to win medalist honors in the Sunset League individual girls' golf finals Monday at the Chino Creek course at El Prado in Chino Hills.

Oliver advanced to the Southern Section finals, along with four others--Lisa Sweller of Marina (120), Kayley Parrett of Esperanza (126), Michelle Eastlack of Los Alamitos (126) and Minnie Choi of Fountain Valley (129).

In Sea View League girls' tennis:

No. 4 Woodbridge 16, Irvine 2--Sara Besherati swept, 6-3, 6-3, 6-0, in singles and Susanna Lingman and Marni Spitz swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, in doubles for visiting Woodbridge (19-5, 8-0).

In the South Coast League:

No. 2 Dana Hills 15, Capistrano Valley 3--Senior Chelsy Thompson swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles for Dana Hills (16-4, 9-0). Her first victory was against Lauren Jones, avenging a 7-5 loss to the Capistrano Valley player two weeks earlier. Dana Hills' No. 1 singles player, Kady Pooler, swept, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.

In the Sunset League:

No. 10 Esperanza 11, Edison 7--Esperanza's top two singles players swept their sets and made the difference between a second- and third-place finish in league. Kelly Six, Esperanza's top singles player, won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and H.R. Espiritu earned a 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Esperanza (13-5, 8-2) finished second behind Los Alamitos. Edison ends league play at 7-3.

In Serra League girls' volleyball:

Lakewood St. Joseph 3, No. 2 Mater Dei 2--St. Joseph (22-3, 4-1), ranked first in Southern Section Division II-A, won, 15-11, 12-15, 15-9, 6-15, 15-13. St. Joseph was led by Melissa Courtney (21 kills and 22 assists). Breegan Mulligan had 17 kills and Whitney Pavlik had 12 for Mater Dei (16-2, 4-1).

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 San Clemente 3, Trabuco Hills 0--Christina Vick had 12 kills, 12 digs, four aces and three blocks and Katy Daly had 12 kills and 18 digs to lead visiting San Clemente (19-1, 9-0) to a 15-0, 15-7, 15-9 win.

Crystal Call had six kills for Trabuco Hills (4-11, 1-8).

In nonleague volleyball:

La Quinta 3, Saddleback 1--Jamie Horn had 11 kills and 21 digs and Amy Vu had 24 assists for visiting La Quinta (4-11, 3-8) in a 15-12, 15-11, 7-15, 16-14 win. Diem Huynh and Alisa Hernandez had 10 kills each for Saddleback.

St. Margaret's 3, Los Angeles Windward 0--Polly Bendush had six kills for St. Margaret's (11-1) in a 15-0, 15-1, 15-3 victory.

In the North Orange County boys' water polo tournament:

No. 9 Servite wins two--Vincent Bevins had six goals to help Servite (19-5) beat Long Beach Poly, 13-4, in the second round of pool play.

Bevins scored three goals and John Doyle had two to lead the Friars to an 8-6 victory over Laguna Beach in a first-round game.

Esperanza 11, Whittier 8--Goaltender Brian Ricci stopped 12 shots, Brian Rock scored four goals and Tyler Morales scored three for Esperanza in pool play. Esperanza defeated Magnolia, 20-3, in an earlier game. Morales had six goals in that game.
